Poverty– Cause of the Month October 2013

New MissionsPoverty is a state of lacking the necessities for survival that many of us take for granted. In its most extreme conditions men, women and children are suffering and at mortal risk due to lack of food, water, sanitation, clothing, shelter, medical assistance and education. As Christians, we are concerned about all forms of suffering, oppression and poverty. We encourage Christians everywhere to do their part in obeying God’s call to embrace a lifestyle of sacrifice and service in every area of their lives, whether for the local or global poor.

New Missions is our recipient for the month of October and is a Christian, nonprofit organization—raising a generation of Christian leaders.

Ministering in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, New Missions is located on the Leogane Plain—about 25 miles southwest of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. New Missions serves the Dominican Republic’s north coast in Sosua.

Each day over 10,000 children Haiti and the Dominican Republic attend school, receive a hot meal, medical care, school books, school uniforms, and the opportunity to hear the Gospel message of Hope that changes lives. A Bible college, trade school and 27 churches have been established in Haiti, and three in the Dominican Republic. New Missions employs Haitians and Dominicans to teach, preach and make a difference in their nation.
